How to Build a Tabernacle: Part 11

Today's Reading: Exodus 35

Comments:
Today I have posted my answer to question number 10 from the chapter study on Exodus 35.  Please see Part 1 for an explanation of this chapter study.

10. What is the significance of the general and the specific calling seen here?

1. What is the purpose to specifically call out individuals by name? (I modified this)

Prayer:
Lord please give me insight into your Word and let me receive the application you have planned for me here today. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
Exodus 35:30–35 (ESV)30 Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, 32 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze, 33 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, for work in every skilled craft. 34 And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer.
Jeff- I have called some distinctly rather than generally.  I ask that all my children give of their time and talents for the cause of my kingdom but some I call out to lead.  Some I call out to teach and to instruct.  To some I give specific skill that will serve a narrower purpose.  These I must anoint so as that they are accepted among the people.  These cannot self appoint Jeff.  Any one of my children can bring an offering and can serve the kingdom, but in some roles I must call them out by name in order for my purpose to be fulfilled.  I must call these out in order to show the people that they choose not themselves and that it is not by their power that they serve.  These leaders require prayer and support from the others in order to stand- as Moses required his arms to be held up during the battle.  This shoulder to shoulder care does not allow for bitterness or envy or strife.  You are one body!

From the Jamieson, Fausset, Brown Commentary-
See, the Lord hath called by name Bezaleel, the son of Uri, &c.—Moses had made this communication before [see Ex 31:2–5; also see on Ex 31:2]. But now that the collection had been made, the materials were contributed, and the operations of building about to be commenced, it was with the greatest propriety he reminded the people that the individuals entrusted with the application of their gold and silver had been nominated to the work by authority to which all would bow.

From the Matthew Henry Commentary-
They were not only to devise and work themselves, but they were to teach others, v. 34. Not only had Bezaleel power to command, but he was to take pains to instruct. Those that rule should teach; and those to whom God had given knowledge should be willing to communicate it for the benefit of others, not coveting to monopolize it.

From the Pentateuch Commentary-
After the materials began coming in, Moses announced the Lord’s choice of Bezalel of Judah and Oholiab of Dan as superintendents of the project. These two men were filled with the Spirit of God. This filling manifested itself in their skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts. What is more, these two master craftsmen both possessed the ability to teach others these skills.

So Jeff, although gifts of teaching or preaching or pastoring or leading in any fashion must be from my Spirit in order to not share my glory, still all good gifts are from me.  This means that the skills that allow even secular work or accomplishment is from me...
James 1:17 (ESV)17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
Know that when I annoint a teacher, and they abide in me, they will receive from my Spirit illumination of the scriptures and they need not validation from men regarding this insight…but only test that they respect the entirety of my Word lest they become deceived and rely on their own understanding…
1 John 2:27 (ESV)27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.
Know that I will reveal myself to the one who is obedient Jeff.  So an anointing should be partnered with loving obedience to my Word…
John 14:21 (ESV)21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
Application and Prayer:
  • Today I will find joyful obedience so that you will further reveal yourself to me Lord.
  • Today I will rejoice in every skill or ability that I have knowing that it is your gift.
  • Today I will celebrate the gifts of others and I will praise you for them Lord.
  • Today I will pray for and bless those that are called out by name in your service Lord.
Thank you for using your children Lord in such diverse and neat ways.  Please use me according to your will Lord and I pray that you would continue to reveal to me how that is to look Lord.  Let me not put you in a box or presume what your plans are Lord but let me know by your revelation.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Soli Deo Gloria!
